Hello! I thought I’d create a post to introduce myself and share my intention for this blog. I’ve been studying astrology since I was in middle school and now it’s my pleasure to be able to share what I do with you! I have a found a way to add emotional healing to my regular practice and one day I was inspired to add the astrological component to it. I wrote up some prompts, shared them with some others, and had such a good response that I thought I would share them with a broader audience.

Carl Jung introduced us to the concept of the Shadow. It is an unconscious part of our psyche that develops when we have negative experiences in our younger lives that aren’t addressed and are instead repressed. Left unchecked these shadows can affect our daily thoughts and emotions and in turn, how we interact with the world around us. I’ve dealt with anxiety and depression since childhood and have experienced tremendous growth since I’ve began to try to understand the shadow aspects of myself and their needs. I still have a long way to go but knowing that a lot of people are also on this learning path paired with my insufferable need to help people in some way has made me excited to share what I know!

The Shadow can be scary for some people, and not everyone is in a place where they are able to or want to be self-aware. That’s perfectly fine. Their journey is not mine and this for those who feel like they are ready to meet their Shadows and begin a relationship with them. I find treating them like a friend I’m trying to get to know is the easiest way for me to understand mine so I’ll talk about them in the third person here.

One area I’m digging into is racism. We live in a society of white supremacy. I’m aware that not everyone is a hooded member of the KKK, but we all have very real internalized racism that we must uncover and change. To be willfully ignorant is to be complicit to racism. I understand that doing this work will be messy and I’ll make mistakes, but it’s the work that is necessary and needed at this time.

One tool that I always have at my disposal is my journal. Writing out the answers to my prompts in one place makes it easy for me to look back at the work that I have done for reference and remembrance. To see the journey at each step as it unfolds. This journal is what prompted the name, “Book of My Shadows.” My grand plan is to make a workbook for 2019 that will contain all the prompts for the year in one place so you can work on it whenever and wherever you are able to. I created a Patreon page to help fund my work since printing can get very expensive.

Anyway, I hope you find my words helpful in some way. If you don’t, that’s all right too. Thank you so much for reading!
