Libra Full Moon 2019 – What if it wasn’t perfect and what if that was okay?

On Wed. March 20 we welcome the Spring Equinox at 2:59 p.m. PDT and the Libra Full Moon at 6:42 p.m. PDT (only after being in Libra for 25 minutes!). This marks the beginning of the “light half” of the year in the Northern Hemisphere where we see that plants are growing, flowers are blooming, and there’s more daylight. This is a time where it feels like we might be coming out of hibernation feeling energized and inspired to create something new or improve on something existing. However, while there are many people out there who can realize their vision, go out, and do the things it takes to manifest what it is that they want, there are many of us who often hold ourselves back out of fear. What if it doesn’t come out the exact way that I want? What if it isn’t perfect? What if others don’t like it? What if I don’t like it? What if, what if, what if…

Our society values perfectionism. We’re told that we must live a certain way, look as flawless as possible, and go about our days without error which causes feelings of dissatisfaction, restlessness, and shame (to name a few). The mitigate these feels we buy things we don’t need so we can play the game in hopes that these things bring the satisfaction that we strive for, but they typically don’t. Instead they perpetuate these feelings and we cycle through the process again and again.

“Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people. It will keep you cramped and insane your whole life.” – Anne Lamott

Take some time during the Full Moon to ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Where does my need for perfectionism come from?
  2. How has it helped me in the past?
  3. Does it protect me from anything?
  4. How has it hurt me?
  5. What would happen if someone I cared about, trusted, and respected in the truest and healthiest ways knew I wasn’t perfect, or saw that I did something imperfectly?

After you are done exploring your perfectionism, take time to explore what you could if you put yourself out there. What if we gave ourselves permission to do the things we wanted to do without needing to be perfect at them? What could we create?

Libra energy has the desire to create beautiful and amazing things and yet also has the power to drag it all down with overthinking and indecisiveness. But Libra also has other strengths: diplomacy, negotiation, and peacekeeping. While these skills are typically applied to relationships with other people, what if we could use these skills with ourselves and negotiate a way to create something imperfect? What if you used Libra’s peacekeeping skills to call a truce with your inner perfectionist? This is my challenge to you this Libra Full Moon.

Our allies for this challenge are Sugilite and Mustard.

Crystal Vaults offers the best explanation as to how Sugilte can help us with our Libra Moon challenge:

“Sugilite is an extraordinary healer of the emotional body, a grounding force for all who are socially awkward, suffering from mental illness, or who simply feel Earth is not their home. Its energy alleviates grief and sorrow, hopelessness, and lends the strength to face difficulties and recognize there is a bigger picture of which one is an integral part. Sugilite helps one let go of the past and move forward in a positive way, releasing unwanted thoughts, memories or life experiences that run over and over, keeping the mind from peace.”

Mustard flower can help you find your inner strength. It can help break the shame spirals that occur when facing a bout of perfectionism by clearing the clouds of our limiting beliefs and helping us realize the real power we have inside. Carry some mustard seeds with you to remind yourself that as long as you have a little faith in your abilities, you can do anything you put your mind to.
